Generative AI has quietly been transforming the way I work, think, and reflect. Some of the ways, it has impacted how I approach everyday tasks:
Searching Simplified
For almost any query I ask, Generative AI provides concise, well-structured responses, often accompanied by references. Those of us who have been using the internet for decades may remember the early search engines required users to sift through dozens of links and manually determine which ones were relevant. Even in recent years, traditional search has often felt overwhelming—too many results, too many ads, and too much time spent filtering noise from signal. In comparison, Generative AI tools transform search from sifting through links into a process of understanding the summary presented.
Facilitate Thinking and Reflection
Generative AI has helped me untangle thoughts about my own behavior and the behavior of others—thoughts that once circled in my mind for months without resolution. By offering alternative perspectives and possible interpretations, it creates something close to an analytical dialogue that helps surface patterns, organize reflection, and bring a sense of closure. While it is certainly not a replacement for human relationships or professional counseling, it has helped slow my thinking, make sense of complex emotions and situations, become more self-aware, and understand—without necessarily justifying—the behavior of others at a deeper level.
Interpreting Dreams and Personal Observations
I have also begun experimenting with recording my dreams and asking Generative AI to help interpret them. Of course, these interpretations are not objective truth—and I am not even sure objective truth exists in such matters. But the narratives and patterns it suggests often encourage me to slow down and revisit moments within the dream, consider what they might represent, and reflect on what my subconscious may have been processing, or what my fears are indicating. One interesting realization from this exercise is that we seem to dream in color.
Accelerating Productivity and Problem Solving
Generative AI has dramatically accelerated my ability to summarize long documents, distill long and circular notes and books, and generate diagrams, workflows, and code. Tasks that once required downloading tools, installing libraries, configuring environments, and experimenting through trial and error can now often be completed in seconds. Of course, the outputs still need to be reviewed for mistakes or hallucinations, but the amount of time saved in the process is remarkable.
Conclusion
Generative AI has become a valuable thinking companion for me. While it brings many benefits, it also raises important challenges around security, privacy, and governance—topics I will explore in my next blog.
